mono::poly
Thomas
Dimuzios Mono::Poly is the first joint production between Asphodel
and Dimuzios own Gench Recordings label. A double CD set, Mono::Poly
anthologizes the best of Dimuzios live solo performances and collaborations
with fellow experimental musicians, moving across multiple genre and cultural
boundaries. Spanning the years 1997-2002, each track on this anthology
displays Dimuzio pushing the envelope of contemporary processing technology
to truly epic, post-rock proportions. Featuring the talents of collaborators
and friends such as Invisbl Skratch Pikl Q-Bert, Tigerbeat6 hip-hop deconstructionist
Wobbly, Henry Cow alumni and noted soloists Chris Cutler and Fred Frith,
Scott Jenerik, Atau Tanaka and more, Mono::Poly is a terrific introduction
to a brilliant artist working at the top of his form.
Additionally, each month sees the release of bonus MP3 excerpts not found
on the Mono::Poly double CD set. All MP3 tracks are FREE and available
exclusively through Gench.com.
Mono::Poly is available now and in record stores near you.
Each month until November 2003 sees the release of additional live
Mono::Poly mp3 tracks (not found on the CD release). This ambitious
project eventually culminates in the release of 50 tracks, featuring 17
artists.
mono::poly reviews
Numerous reviews of the live double CD document.
"...tracks tend towards gargantuan and colourful representations
of fields of pressure, more Futurist in feel than the dour orientations
of post-Industrial music." The Wire
"Ultimately, this newly released effort serves as a luminous snapshot
of an artist, who deserves widespread exposure." All About
Jazz
"the quality of sounds and the complexity of the performances
is stunning." Splendid Ezine
"These are warm, floating pieces that allow much freedom for the
imagination." Ink Nineteen
"...Dimuzio's work successfully spans a wide range of styles,
from full-on noise assault to glitch to ambient to musique concrete and
electroacoustic." Flux Europa
"he doesn't exactly hide his methods- but when the work is as
engrossing as this, I'm not complaining." Signal To Noise
"The pallet is broad, but homogeneous." V.I.O.R.

slew
Thomas
Dimuzio has produced an impressive body of solo and collaborative work
over the course of his 15-year career. From his renowned recordings for
RRRecords, such as Sonicism and Markoff Process, to the
classic Headlock (RéR) and his recent Mono::Poly
(Asphodel/Gench), Dimuzio is a true sonic alchemist who can seemingly
create musical events out of almost anything. Those paying close attention
to this innovative sound artist's recorded activities are also familiar
with the large and compelling body of work Dimuzio has produced for compilation
projects. This material has finally been united by RéR Megacorp
and Gench into a single release, the aptly named Slew.
Slew pools more than a decade of studio works spanning compilations
issued by RRRecords, Tzadik, Alku, Realization, Digital Narcis, Self Abuse,
Cuneiform and other groundbreaking labels. More than a compilation of
compilation tracks, Slew documents the evolution of an artist dedicated
to an immersive world of sound and aural vision. Bringing together many
out of print and hard to find gems, Slew blurs the bounds of electro-acoustic,
digital musique concrete, drone, noise, dark ambient and industrial. Dimuzios
sonic reworkings range from an Elvis impersonator (on parade), junkyard
ambiance, electric guitar, piano, voice, clarinet, feedback and shortwave
sounds to cellist Tom Cora and the music of Dr. Nerve. Also featured is
a new bonus track constructed from Dimuzios locked-groove submissions
for the releases RRR-500 (RRRecords) and LockERS (E.R.S.).
Slew charts the path of a prolific sound artist and composer and
is an essential addition to any collection.
